Documents Required to Register for the CFP Examination

Eligibility Documents Accepted by FPSC

To qualify for the CFP Examination you must complete an education program offered by one of FPSC-Accredited Education Programs. Each CFP Examination applicant must provide an official transcript showing successful completion of each of the required courses in the respective program. We do not accept internet generated transcripts. Each candidate is responsible for providing your own documentation.Candidates who completed the financial planning program through the Institute of Canadian Bankers (ICB) must contact ICB to obtain the required supporting documentation.

FPSC Approved Prior Credential Eligibility

Candidates who are holders of one of the following degree/credentials approved by Financial Planners Standards Council are permitted to apply to write the CFP Examination without formally completing further educational courses under FPSC's Approved Prior Credentials Path. The candidate must provide a current letter from the appropriate governing professional body attesting that he/she is a member in good standing.
Chartered Accountant (CA)

Certified General Accountant (CGA)

Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
a current letter confirming designation and membership in good standing from appropriate provincial accounting body
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) a current letter confirming designation and membership in good standing from CFA Institute
Fellow of Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) a current letter confirming designation and membership in good standing.
Certified Financial Planner (CFP Foreign) a current letter confirming designation and membership in good standing from international CFP affiliate member organization
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) a current letter confirming designation and membership in good standing from Advocis
Member of provincial law society a current letter confirming membership in good standing from provincial law society
PH.D. in business, finance, or economics official confirmation of Ph.D. in business, finance or economics
