September 15, 1997,Toronto - Mr. Jim Rogers, Chair, The Rogers Group Financial Advisors Ltd, has been appointed Chairman of the Regulatory Committee of Financial Planners Standards Council of Canada (FPSC).
FPSC now has over 4400 CFP licensees in Canada who wish to see the FPSC take on a self-regulatory role on their behalf. "Gaining regulatory recognition for the FPSC is a key initiative for the coming year and I am pleased to be part of it," said Jim Rogers.
FPSC Regulatory Committee will explore ways of working with provincial regulatory bodies to regulate the activities of individuals holding themselves out as financial planners. "We are delighted that Jim has agreed to spearhead this important Committee," said Don Johnston, President of the FPSC.
Financial Planners Standards Council was incorporated on November 10, 1995 to benefit and protect the public by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for financial planners who choose to be licensed by FPSC.
FPSC is made up of seven associations whose members deal with the personal finances of individuals. The members are the Canadian Association of Financial Planners, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning, the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada, the Credit Union Institute of Canada, the Life Underwriters Association of Canada and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada.
