Toronto, November 13, 2007 — FPSC and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) professionals are offering advice to help Canadians manage debt and credit during Credit Education Week in Canada. The Week is the first-ever initiative of its kind for Credit Canada.
FPSC, staff and CFP professionals will be participating in public forums and knowledge fairs. If you're looking for tips on debt and credit management, go to our Learning Centre for material on debt and credit management.
INTERESTED IN DOING A STORY FOR CREDIT EDUCATION WEEK?
CFP professionals are available for insight on various story ideas, such as:
* Keeping young people/students out of debt
* Christmas is coming: how to avoid the urge to splurge beyond your means
* Understanding the difference between good debt and bad debt
And much more . . .
"We are very pleased to be part of this national initiative to help Canadian learn how to better manage their finances," says Ann Bowman, VP of Communications and Corporate Relations for FPSC. "Debt management is one of the key skills CFP professionals bring to the table. That complements what Credit Canada is doing."
Credit Canada Executive Director Laurie Campbell says, "We're excited by the presence of FPSC among our supporters. They've joined leaders in financial services, consumer advocates, community organizations and government. The goal of the Week is to empower the public to make wise financial choices by placing tools and resources at their fingertips."
Some of the Week's events include: daily press releases, a national essay contest for high school students on "The Dangers of Credit", and resources on the Credit Canada website, including an interactive budgeting tool. A consumer tradeshow at the Four Seasons Hotel, with high-profile speakers, and knowledge fairs at the University of Toronto and York University are some of the other activities in which FPSC and volunteer CFP professionals are participating.
