FPSC Sponsors Shinerama in Support of Cystic Fibrosis

August 30, 2001, Toronto - Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) is a national sponsor of Shinerama, Canada's largest post-secondary fundraiser, for its second year. Approximately 25,000 students at 60 universities and colleges across Canada will hit the streets in early September in support of Cystic Fibrosis research and treatment using shine kits displaying the CFP trademarks.

The students will head out into their communities, looking to shine just about anything for a contribution. The CFP trademarks will also be prominent on all Shinerama promotional materials including posters, collection boxes and car wash signs. FPSC will repeat its donation of $1,000 toward the implementation of a financial plan prepared by a CFP licensee who will donate his or her time and expertise to the winner of the national draw available to all volunteering students.

"By supporting Shinerama, FPSC helps raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis while promoting CFP brand awareness," said FPSC President Don Johnston. "We are delighted to be part of Shinerama again this year. It is a worthy cause and a natural fit with our "Take the Next Step" campaign." Take the Next Step, FPSC's half-million dollar CFP awareness campaign aimed at the financial industry, students and the general public, continues throughout the year.

CFP licensees are finding their own ways of supporting the cause. A financial planning firm in Kingston, ON, for example, has invited student shiners to shine the shoes of 30 financial planners to help kick off the Shinerama campaign of Queen's University.

Financial Planners Standards Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to benefiting and protecting the Canadian consumer by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for financial planners who choose to earn the CFP designation. FPSC is the Canadian licensor of the internationally recognized CFP certification marks used by 62,000 planners in 15 countries around the world. There are approximately 13,000 planners licensed to use these marks in Canada.
